A Rescue

I had been thinking back on stories of the Holocaust.  Stark and cruel, it stands in history as horror we wouldn't deny.  Thinking of the people who worked to help rescue as many as possible.... who secretly fought to free strangers from crimes against humanity.  Would I have done the same?  It's easy to think that with something that bad, surely I would have given as much up as possible- how can you see something like the Holocaust taking place and stand by untouched?  I hope I would have given as much as possible.... to save as many as possible... if I had the means, I hope I would have given it all.  What price is too much when we're talking about rescuing people's lives?  And horror of horrors.... what if it had been my family?

Then I received a letter.

"The African Christians of Sudan have been relentlessly attacked by their own radical Islamic government! They were victims of genocide: their villages destroyed, their homes desecrated, their land burned, their children carried away into slavery.... "

It was from Breakthrough with Pastor Rod Parsley.  Through their worldwide missions outreach, Bridge of Hope, this ministry has been working in the country of Sudan for years. (click here for website: http://www.rodparsley.com/boh/ )  As civil war has raged over the years, thousands of people from the south have been taken prisoner and forced into slavery.  Men, women, and children.  Through God's grace, Bridge of Hope has purchased the freedom of over 30,000 slaves.

"The clock is ticking toward the moment -- in the beginning of July -- when North and South Sudan will officially split. That’s when the borders could close -- and it will be more difficult than ever, maybe impossible, to rescue, redeem, and set free men, women, and children enslaved by Arab captors in the North."

I prayed for a moment, and then just gave what the Lord wanted me to give.  Later, I read more in detail... I wanted to see how much the price for one person's freedom is.  "Surely it's high...." I thought. "A rescue from cruel militias and masters with violent religious beliefs, and given a whole new life.  Wouldn't it be amazing if $300 could change someone's life, and I was able to help?"  How would I feel if I were them?  Knowing that my price for freedom was a few hundred dollars..... a lot of money.... but that could change my whole life?  I would be rescued- free- for life.  I know I would hope and pray that someone's heart would hear my desperate plea.

"If we don't get there in time, thousands could be trapped in the agony of slavery for the rest of their lives — the Committee to Eradicate the Abduction of Women and Children estimates there are still more than 35,000 Southern Sudanese enslaved in the North!"

What a blessing to be able to help.  But then I read the amount it takes to help one person be free:  $26.  I had to sit down.  $26?  $26?!?  For $26, I can give someone their life???

I hesitate to write of what is being done to these people, as I know children read this blog.  Imagine genocide all around you.  Imagine lives spent in slavery so brutal, that perhaps your fate is worse than those who were wiped out all around.  Please read about these people.... please do.  I must speak up and tell you about them, so that you can spread the word too.  We have about 2-3 weeks, before this window of rescue may be closed.  Here is a link to see how we can help:

It is hard to comprehend:   twenty-six dollars, to change one life halfway around the world.

With love... and thank you for listening,
Brittany.
