The Love of God

written in 1917 by Frederick Lehman

Could we with ink the oceans fill,
"If we could fill the oceans with ink....."

And were the skies of parchment made,
"and if the skies were our canvas....."

Were every stalk on earth a quill,
"and if every stem of every plant were used as a pen..."

And every man a scribe by trade,
"and if every person on this earth were writing- as fast and as furiously as they could write......"

To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Can I even begin to picture how very much God loves me?  It is amazing to try to comprehend all that His Word says:

"For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are His mercy and loving-kindness to those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."  Psalm 103:11 & 12

"For God so loved the world......"
"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, His one and only Son.  And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life."  John 3:16 (The Message translation)

The message of salvation is good news indeed.  It is hope offered to us by a God who loves us- loves us so very much.  By grace, He loves us.

"This is real love- not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."  1 John 4:10

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love." John 15:9
